A mentally handicapped man who went missing from a group home in Russell Gardens on June 29 was found late Tuesday in Brooklyn.
Keith Siegel, 47, was in good condition and was taken to North Shore University Hospital for observation, Nassau police said.
Siegel, who is 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighs between 185 and 200 pounds, was wearing his glasses and a blue bicycle helmet and had been seen riding his bicycle when he disappeared from the home on Melbourne Road.
He became the subject of a massive search by missing persons detectives, who issued a "wanted poster" in hopes of locating Siegel.
Having disappeared at around 9 a.m. on June 29, Siegel was reportedly seen last Wednesday bicycling near Belmont Park in Elmont sometime between 2 and 3 p.m. The racetrack is about six miles south of Russell Gardens.
Later that Wednesday he was reportedly seen at a couple of McDonald's fast-food restaurants on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.
Detectives were most concerned because in addition to diminished mental capacity, Siegel requires medication.
Late last week there were reports that Siegel had been seen on Northern Boulevard in Great Neck and in Flushing.
Police said he was finally found Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. on Bond and Fulton streets in Brooklyn. Police could not immediately say how Siegel made his way to Brooklyn or if he still had his bicycle with him when he was found.
I want to thank all of you for praying. Thankfully he was found no worse for wear and was able to come home after a quick trip to the hospital to be checked out. Thank you all so much!!!!

a man in such dire need of meds was lost for that long and survived? I think that the doctors need to re-evaluate his need for the meds! I'm glad he was found!
